Privacy Policy
Oil Manual is built as a static, manual-first reference. The current site does not require an account, does not ask for a VIN, does not process payments, and keeps saved-garage records in your browser.
Saved garage
The saved garage stores vehicle notes, oil choices, mileage, and service dates in this browser's local storage. That data stays on this device unless you print it, copy it, clear your browser storage, or use browser sync outside Oil Manual.
Correction submissions
The correction form is designed for evidence about oil data, such as a page URL, vehicle record, manual reference, and description of the issue. Do not send VINs, addresses, payment details, or other unnecessary personal information.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 (gtag.js) with Google Consent Mode: the tag loads on every page, but analytics cookies are denied by default and it runs in a limited, cookieless mode until you accept in the consent banner. Accepting enables analytics cookies and full measurement; declining keeps it cookieless — either way your choice is remembered on this device and declining is just as easy as accepting.
Analytics and metrics tools may collect technical data such as device type, browser, language, approximate location, visited pages, interaction events, and basic performance or error signals. When enabled, Google Analytics sends usage and device data to Google under Google's own privacy terms. Separately, a first-party analytics helper dispatches local events in the browser and sends them to a network endpoint only when a production endpoint is configured. The event catalog is public at /analytics-events.
We use this information to understand how the site is used, improve UX, measure performance, detect abuse, keep the site stable, and prioritize content fixes.
Technical logs
Hosting, CDN, and security systems may keep technical request logs such as requested URLs, timestamps, IP-derived region, browser details, status codes, and basic security signals. These logs are used for reliability, debugging, abuse prevention, and site security.
Search
Site search uses a static Pagefind index generated at build time. Searches run in the browser against that static index.
Email reminders
Email reminders are not active yet. Before reminders launch, Oil Manual needs production hosting, privacy copy for storage and unsubscribe behavior, and an email provider with a clear opt-in and deletion path.
Contact
When you use the contact form, the name, email address, and message you enter — together with the URL of the page you sent it from — go to a Cloudflare Worker that runs a Cloudflare Turnstile anti-spam check and forwards your message to our inbox. Only include what you are comfortable sharing; do not send VINs, addresses, payment details, or other sensitive personal information. For security issues affecting the site itself, use the security disclosure path.
